on an obscure beach on Planet Nexus....

The following is an excerpt from the article " The Importance of Backlinks" at Webconfs.com

The importance of backlinks

What are "backlinks"? Backlinks are links that are directed towards your website. Also known as Inbound links (IBL's). The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website. Backlinks are important for SEO because some search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query.

Another reason to achieve quality backlinks is to entice visitors to come to your website. You can't build a website, and then expect that people will find your website without pointing the way. You will probably have to get the word out there about your site. One way webmasters got the word out used to be through reciprocal linking.

Building quality backlinks is extremely important to Search Engine Optimization, and because of their importance, it should be very high on your priority list in your SEO efforts.

The NexusBar contributes to boosting your search engine rankings, because your site is back linked through your NexusTree profile. Users view your page and click your board link and a statistic is born. Additionally every time your site appears on the NexusBar or on The Wall, it will backlink to your profile leaf, which in turn will direct users to your board. Multiple mentions work to your advantage in your search engine rankings. more....

If you want something done right, do it yourself

People really need to use this. I don't know how much people know about SEO and such but it's a big deal. Google is a big deal. If you can manipulate Google in any way to help your forum stand out from other forums of the same genre and such on Google, you have a major advantage. I learned to use Google and it's webmaster tools along with Google Analytics, and something like this NexusBar system will really work in your favor.

Like Helena said, it basically links your forum on many websites, and Google responds by saying "wow, this site must be popular if it's linked on this many sites, so let's bump it up on our Google ranks." That's a major part of how Google ranks sites.

Image links barely do a thing. Same for simply giving your URL.

Anchor your text into what you want to show up as more in search results. This works on ALL search engines. One of the first things I learned as an advertising admin, aswell.

I wonder if this will work though o:

Backlinks are the references to your website from other websites. It is one of the main SEO strategies on which your website ranking largely depends on. I contacted the [link removed] seo services Los Angeles and they told me that other techniques are also important to have a proper balance.
